Diverse Ability

inclusive communities care aims to create communities of belonging, where every member of the community feels safe, loved and valued for their unique gifts and talents.

What we do:

  • Recruit Disability Support Workers to work with individuals who have disabilities and their families.

  • Work with community organizations to enhance opportunities for people with disabilities to contribute and belong. We advocate for the inclusion of individuals with disabilities in all aspects of community life, and offer professional guidance in order to do so. Some of our work involves: conducting education & training, technical assistance, coaching, and advocacy.

  • Provide specialized professional expertise. Our team consists of a Behaviour Consultant, Occupational Therapist and Physical Therapist. These professionals collaboratively train and mentor staff, as well as provide consultation services in order to help manage persons with disabilities unique health and safety needs.

Recruiting Disability Support Workers

Hiring and retaining qualified support workers can be difficult. Diverse Ability will assist families with this process.

We do this by:

  • Posting job advertisements, reviewing potential candidates, and working closely with families to interview, hire, mentor and train support staff- Community Disability Support Workers.

The Families we Work With & How it Works:

Funding for for Adult Supports comes from the Persons with Developmental Disabilities Program (PDD), a part of the Provincial Ministry of Human Services of the Government of Alberta.

We work families who receive government funding through the Family Managed Service (FMS) Agreement. Through FMS, the individual with a developmental disability and their family will directly hire staff / services providers.

Using a family-centered service model, family’s employ the Community Disability Support Workers through the same funding

Supports are provided to an individual wherever they live, work or socialize in the community. Supports are organized according to an individual’s needs and wants.

We help our Community Disability Support Workers build an inclusive community culture around the person they are working with, so that the person with a disability can enjoy full citizenship and community inclusion.
